CATIE, Canada’s source for HIV and Hepatitis C information, is partnering with the AIDS Committee of Cambridge Kitchener Waterloo and Area (ACCKWA) to deliver a training course for you and your colleagues on Preventing the Sexual Transmission of HIV.
The course will be offered through blended learning – combining a four-week online course plus a face-to-face meeting day. The course will officially start on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 with the face-to-face session on May 15, 2018 at the ACCKWA offices.
CATIE’s Preventing the Sexual Transmission of HIV blended learning course aims to develop core knowledge on the prevention of sexual transmission of HIV for front-line service providers who have a role in HIV prevention. Through this course, participants will gain in-depth knowledge of the biology of the sexual transmission of HIV and emerge with a concrete understanding of how to prevent HIV through the use of highly effective prevention strategies and other risk reduction tools. This course will assist participants to accurately and meaningfully discuss sexual HIV transmission risk and prevention strategies with their clients. Participants should have a basic understanding of HIV prior to taking this course.
The course includes four interactive online lessons and discussion board assignments, which you can work through at your own pace. Each online module takes approximately one hour to complete.
- Week 1: The biology of HIV transmission
- Week 2: Assessing and communicating HIH HHIV transmission risk
- Week 3: Highly effective HIV prevention strategies
- Week 4: Benefits and limitations of additional risk reduction strategies
To finish the course, you and your colleagues will come together in person for a one-day training that builds on the knowledge you have learned online.
- Week 5: Face-to-Face workshop on Preventing the Sexual Transmission of HIV
