Women & AIDS Working Group

Origins and Purpose

The Women & AIDS Working Group (WAAWG) was founded in 1994 by AIDS Committee of Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo & Area (ACCKWA), and is composed of volunteers interested in promoting and addressing women’s issues in respect to HIV and AIDS.

Members

The WAAWG is comprised of ACCKWA’s dedicated volunteers, service users, and service providers.

Objectives

Our objective is to identify barriers or gaps in our community which place women at risk, to educate service providers and women in Waterloo Region on what puts women at risk of contracting HIV and what they can do to prevent negative health outcomes.  We also, support women in our community who are infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS and raise funds for the WAAWG to accomplish these tasks.

Volunteer Opportunities

WAAWG encourages community members and organizations to participate in our initiatives to promote HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.

Volunteers need not have any prior experience in the HIV/AIDS field, only an inclination to improve the lives of women, their families, and their communities.

Various volunteer opportunities include researching, creating and distributing information resources, attending informative monthly meetings, presenting displays, planning and presenting PHA Women and Friends Café, and much more.

Please call 519-570-3687 ext 341 or email the Women’s Community Development Coorindator for meeting dates or more information on how you can get involved.
